Saturn Impaired
From The Mountain Astrologer, February-March 2005 (3)

Q.   My question is in regard to Saturn’s ongoing influence in my life. My Virgo Moon is almost exactly conjunct Saturn. In relationship to Astro*Carto*Graphy, I lived at my birth location, just a little east of my Saturn line, for 18 years. Then, I lived out from under it for many years, but have spent the last 23 years directly under it. In what way does this affect my life? Is it best to get out from under Saturn’s line, or is there still more for me to experience with it? I spent many years resisting and wrestling with Saturn, until I came to a place of regarding this placement as a blessing, in the sense that it requires me to be current with just about everything in my life. Sometimes, though, it feels like a relentless grinding that lifts some when I am away from here (or could it be my imagination)?
— Saturn Impaired

A. Moving away from your Moon–Saturn lines is a delightful idea. Get out from under the oppression, and live a little! You needn’t worry that you’ll forget the hard-learned Moon–Saturn lessons; the wisdom you earn through the trials of Saturn stays with you for life, and the prominence of Moon–Saturn in your natal chart remains strong wherever you go.

It’s not surprising that you’ve struggled with your formidable Moon–Saturn conjunction throughout much of your life. Its proximity to your South Node heightens its significance in terms of personal growth and challenges. Moon–Saturn in Virgo does demand that you focus on what’s important and stay on track, while at the same time not losing sight of the bigger picture (9th house). This is made more challenging by the close Moon–Mars square, which can create inner turmoil that must be managed, perhaps through a regular practice such as meditation. Mars opposite Uranus underlines the need to control the agitation to keep your energy well focused and more mellow.

Now, in your 50s, you’ve had plenty of opportunity to develop the wisdom that your Moon–Saturn conjunction promises — wisdom that develops through trial and error over many years. You’ve learned Saturn’s lessons, and you are even grateful for them. Your next lesson is about moving on.

I encourage you to lighten up and get on your way. Saturnine types such as yourself are often serious as children and then learn how to have fun in their later years. Since your own experience confirms that life’s a little brighter away from Saturn’s shadow, trust your perceptions and move somewhere that offers more.

The timing is certainly right. Your progressed Sun opposes natal Uranus this year, you’re approaching the Last Quarter square of your progressed lunation cycle, and the progressed Moon is making her way toward your Midheaven,1 — all saying, “Leave the past behind.” Allow transiting Neptune’s square to natal Mercury to enliven your imagination about the new life you’re about to create. This year’s supportive transits of Saturn and Jupiter will enable you to successfully complete this transition.2

Within the United States, I’d recommend moving anywhere in the eastern part of the country that’s within one quarter inch of your Venus/Sun/Mercury Midheaven lines on your Astro*Carto*Graphy map and no farther than a quarter inch from the Uranus/ Descendant line.3 That gives you numerous places to choose from. Anywhere near those supportive lines (the closer the better), your contributions will be recognized, you’ll shine in the community, and you’ll feel that your ideas are understood and appreciated. Your leadership capabilities will come forth, and you should feel be comfortable in the role of a leader. Living near these planetary lines would be very different from your Saturn–Moon experience and would support having a zestful and connected social life. Please, ask yourself, “What am I waiting for?” and then call the moving company!
